What we remove
The following are common, harmless skin growths that are not related to skin cancer risk. They can, however, become irritated, uncomfortable or troublesome – for example, catching on clothing or jewellery, becoming sore through friction, interfering with shaving, or simply being in an inconvenient place. You may also wish to have a lesion removed because you are unhappy with its appearance.
Our Advanced Nurse Practitioners can remove a range of benign skin lesions, with most treatments completed during a single visit.
Your safety comes first. Before treatment, every lesion is carefully examined with a dermatoscope to confirm that it is appropriate for removal. If there is any uncertainty about the diagnosis, or anything looks unusual, the lesion will not be removed. Instead, we will take dermoscopic images and refer these for remote assessment by one of our reporting doctors through our Single Mole Check service, at no additional charge.
Where a lesion is suitable for removal, with a small number of exceptions such as skin tags and warts, the removed tissue will also be sent to our laboratory for histological examination to confirm the diagnosis. This is included in the prices shown.

2. Pay your assessment fee. £100 secures your appointment and is deducted from your treatment price.
3. Attend your appointment. Consultation, diagnosis, consent and procedure in one visit, typically under 45 minutes.
4. Heal with support. Written aftercare and a direct line to our clinical team while you recover.
Removal methods
We use a range of techniques to remove benign skin lesions, including shave removal, cryotherapy, curettage and cautery, surgical excision and punch removal. The most appropriate method will depend on the type, size and location of your lesion. Your clinician will assess this with you and explain the recommended treatment.
Local anaesthetic is used where needed to keep you comfortable. Where appropriate, tissue removed during treatment is sent to our laboratory for histological examination to confirm the diagnosis.
Where surgical excision is required, our Advanced Nurse Practitioners can treat suitable lesions on the body and limbs. Head and neck excisions are not carried out as part of this service and, where appropriate, a separate appointment with one of our Consultant Dermatologists may be recommended.

In the majority of cases there will be an underlying therapeutic reason to have a benign lesion removed. In rare cases where there is no therapeutic reason VAT charges will apply.

Does removal hurt?
Most procedures use local anaesthetic, so you feel a brief scratch and little else. Cryotherapy stings for a few seconds.
Will I have a scar?
Any procedure that breaks the skin can leave a small mark. Your clinician will choose the method most likely to heal cleanly and will discuss this before you consent.
What if the lesion is not benign?
It will not be removed under this service. We will explain why and arrange specialist assessment.
Can I have several lesions removed at once?
Yes. Tell us when booking so we allow enough time. Additional lesions are charged at the lower rate.
How long is recovery?
Most people return to normal activity the same day. Healing takes one to two weeks depending on method and size.
Is this available on the NHS?
The NHS does not usually remove benign lesions for cosmetic reasons, which is why many patients choose us.
